A rousing rendition of the Wake Up Brevy song started our day off early! After checking out of the hotel, we walked to some breakfast, where a murder of old ladies (approximately 16+) joined at the table next to us. Brevin finally got his caramel milkshake and its thin frothiness did not disappoint. We then scooted our last scooty back and climbed into Lucy for a drive through the countryside to our next destination. We stopped at Velocity Valley for a casual ride through a water course at 100km/hr on a custom-built jet boat, also known as Agrojetting. As expected, Ilana was petrified and Brevin was thrilled. Our agro-captain has been doing this for 15 years and even helped on one of the scenes in The Hobbit when they were rolling down the river in barrels. On our way out, Brevin met his favorite duck in New Zealand. He sat in the food trough in dangerous proximity to an ostrich, while other ducks merely sat on the ground, fighting for scraps.
Our zest for adventure didn’t end here – we made our way to Skyline Adventures to gondola our way up to picturesque views of Sulphur Bay and the town of Rotorua. After a brief nature hike, we finally tried kumara chips (New Zealand sweet potatoes). These particular variety were covered in bacon, cheese, and tomato relish. Next, we plopped on some helmets, were given shockingly brief and vague instructions, and luged down the mountainside like MarioKart. As expected, Ilana was petrified and Brevin was thrilled.
After hotel check-in at the Prince’s Gate in Rotorua, we walked around Government Gardens, inhaled the sulfurous stenches of the various geothermal pools, and made our way to what turned out to be the greatest Indian food this side of the Mississip. The lamb saag was the greatest lamb saag in the history of all lamb saags. It won a bunch of awards too, and not just ones we decreed.
