Driving through the rain towards Wellington, we spotted a big mysterious cat casually crossing the main road. We also saw some pretty sweet billboards, including an ad for “Owl-catraz” (a real place apparently), and a NZ Army ad stating ‘If your kids are out of line, send them to us!’ There was also a sign that we think was calling us eggs? Plus the semi-inspirational safe-driving boards. Gotta love the NZ humour. For brunch we stopped at a cafe for coffee and various meat pies to go, but then came the great disappearing meat pie debacle of 2019. Ilana swears she grabbed one for herself, Brevin claims he never saw it happen. We paid for two, but upon returning to the car we discovered that what Ilana had already half-eaten was the pie Brevin got. We looked left, right, up, down, inside the car and out, but to this day we don’t know where Ilana’s little pie could have gone.
‘Twas a long drive down, and after a few brief stops along the way, such as Stormy Point and Palmerston North, we finally made it to windy Wellington. After settling into our AirBnB (aptly named the Lavender Apartment), we took the famous Wellington Cable Car down to town. It was raining on and off so we stuck to the shoppes, and since we were both feeling quite pooped from the day, we headed in early. It is worth noting that our AirBnB was the perfect little spot for our last stop on the honeymoon. Each room carefully adorned with fresh lavender from the property, milk chocolates delicately placed on our abundant pillows, fluffy robes left for our leisure, and many other little decorative elements sweetly laid out for us.
