We have decided that in New Zealand you can’t tell if something is a golf course or a national park since everything is beautiful. Brevin has also noted that the average male pitch is higher than the average American male voice.
We took it slowly this morning, starting at the Fat Dog for brekkie (Ilana’s mini croissants were divine), and then packed the car and made our way towards Taupo, with many stops along the way. First, Kerosene Creek — a secret hot spring accessed by a dirt road with a thousand potholes only known to travelers who take the unmarked roads. Then, the Lava Glass blowing gallery where we toured the gardens and pondered if we should spend our next 3 paychecks on a glass vase. Next, a honey tasting at the Huka Honey Hive where we learned about bees. Then off to Huka Falls, where we learned that water is pretty dope. Though it was more of a series of grand rapids rather than a fall. Ilana did not give Brevin permission to jump in at this point. After arriving in Taupo and checking in at the luxury motel of Baycrest Lodge, we walked around downtown, met Swindley Jr.’s distant cousin Glow. As the day progressed, Ilana, still feeling ill but not with the same sickness as the previous days, fearfully realized her vertigo seemed to slowly be returning; as of this writing, she hopes it shall dissipate before the ‘morrow.
In true Hobbit form, we had many dinners this evening. A teaser of Kiwi Burger and Mince pie at what is apparently the “world’s coolest McDonald’s” (there was a literal McDonald’s airplane on the property), a supper of BBQ, and a proper dinner of Hawaiian pizza. We of course watched The Lord of the Rings with dinner, and then took a dip in our private patio hot tub heated by the natural geothermal hot springs on the property.
