Nov 2: 30th Floor Views

After getting to our hotel, with sweeping views of Sky Tower and most of Auckland, we ignored the jetlag and walked for miles. Apparently people don’t believe in breakfast after 9am here, so it took us a while to find an open spot, but Gloria Jean’s did not disappoint. We then tried to find this “water” that Auckland is apparently built around, but couldn’t seem to locate it until several hours later. It was just around the corner the whole time. Around the other corner, Brevin’s nostalgia was fulfilled when we found a Nando’s, where we shared two 1/4 chickens and a grilled halloumi. Nov 1: Airplane/Airport Musings…

Brevin luck: Best airport food he’s ever had at 1300 on Fillmore… Fried catfish with jambalaya rissoto. Ilana luck: Immediately sticks half of her sweater sleeve in a bunch of mustard. Ilana’s immediate reaction to sudden and severe turbulence is to give Brevin a goodbye smooch, also known as the death smooch.  Brevin luck: Gets through automated customs immediately and with no issue. Ilana luck: For a reason which is never determined or explained, Ilana is diverted to the ‘Assisted’ in person inspection line at customs. The very poorly signed and minimally staffed Assisted line. She is then required to wait in line for about 25 minutes for passport approval, which was given immediately and without a single question asked.
